YAMAMOTO EYE PROTECTION

Selecting the right protective eyewear:

  1. Identify the laser type (eximer, diode, Nd-YAG, etc.), wavelength, and output power of the laser beam. Different laser types with wavelengths in the same region are grouped together into a FILTER CODE (which may or may not be the same as the laser type name). If your laser beam name (laser type) is different from the filter code, you can still use the laser protective eyewear as long your laser beam emits in the wavelength region of the filter code. Spectral characteristic graphs are included to help with the selection.

  2. Choose the right Filter Type based on how much light you need to filter within a spectral region. (The higher the optical density value—OD—the less light that is transmitted.) Then turn to the page that has that Filter Type.

    FLITER TYPE DESCRIPTION
    LASER ABSORPTION
Laser cannot be seen because of high OD
    MULTIBAND
Can be used for different lasers
    ATTENUATION TO 1/100
For alignment work with lasers of power <100 mW (OD=1~2)
    ATTENUATION TO 1/10000
For alignment work with lasers of power <10 W (OD=4)
    TEMPERED GLASS
    High transmittance of visible light
    HIGH POWER LASER
High transmittance of visible light with high OD in UV / IR region

  3. On the page with the Filter Type, check the table for the Filter Code that includes the wavelength (or wavelengths) to be blocked. Find the row in the table that has the right wavelength and OD. That row will list the frame types or styles available. Choose the most desirable frame that is available for the filter code. Get the frame Model Number. See below.
    FRAME TYPE / STYLE DESCRIPTION

    GOGGLE
    MODEL YL-130
The Goggle design fits snugly to the face and can be worn over prescription eyewear. It is suitable to use at places where the laser beam and diffused laser may come from an unpredictable angle.
    Frame: PP & elastomer
    Lens: polycarbonate with hard coating

    GLASS
    MODEL YL-295
Lightweight & compact. Temples have side-shield. Semi-straight temples and spring hinges provide snug fit. Rubber nose pad provides stable & snug fit.
    Frame: plastic
    Lens: polycarbonate with hard coating

    OVERGLASS 1
    MODEL YL-717
For use with large prescription glasses. Has shielding on upper and lower parts. Temple length and frame angle are adjustable.
    Frame: plastic
    Lens: polycarbonate with hard coating

    OVERGLASS 2
    MODEL YL-331
Can be worn with or without prescription glasses although it may not work with some large glasses. Has side-shields for extended protection andsoft nose pad and cushion bar for snug fit.
    Frame: plastic
    Lens: polycarbonate with hard coating

  4. Once you know the MODEL NUMBER, FILTER TYPE, and FILTER CODE, you can specify the ITEM NUMBER. (All Yamamoto products begin with YL followed by the model number based on style or design type followed by the filter type and filter code.
