The USAF 1951 test target is the industry standard for rating optical
system performance in resolution and contrast. The target consists of an array of
groups of bar patterns whose spatial frequency increases as the sixth root of two.
RT-1 is a negative pattern, and is used for collimators and other illuminated test equipment.
RT-2 positive pattern (opaque lines on clear glass) is used
for quality control testing of microscopes and photographic lenses, etc.
