  1. Identify the type, wavelength and output power of the laser beam.   Often, the type of laser determines the Filter Code since the filter code is named after a laser type.  However, even the same name of laser beam may belong to a different wavelength.  Therefore, if your laser beam name is different from the filter code, you can still use the laser protective eyewear as long as it meets the right wavelength of your laser beam.  Please carefully see the spectral characteristic graphs on each page.
  2. Choose the right Filter Type.  This depends on how much light you need to filter.  (See the bottom of page 3 to define OD.)  Then turn to the page that has that Filter Type.  For example, type D is on page 4.  See also, Window and Curtain Sheet protection.

    Type

    Description
    Laser Absorption Type
You cannot see the laser because OD is high.
    Multiband Type
One filter applies to several lasers.
    Attenuation to 1/100
    For Alignment under 100mW laser.  OD= 1 ~ 2

    Type

    Description
    Attenuation to 1/10000
For Alignment under 10W laser.  OD = 4
    Tempered glass type
    High level of visibility
    High power laser type
High OD and high threshold level
  3. On the page for the Filter Type, find the Filter Code which depends on the Wavelength (or Wavelengths) to be blocked.  Look this up in the table.  Find the row in the table that has the right wavelength and OD.  From that row you get the Filter Code and the available frames.
  4. Choose the most desirable frame that is available for the filter code.  Get the frame Model Number.  See below.

    Frame Type

    Description

Goggle holds the face and can be worn over prescription eyewear.  It is suitable to use at the place where the laser beam and diffused laser may come from unpredictable angle.

For large size prescription glass wearers

    Frame Type

    Description

Light weight & compact.  Semi-straight temples and spring hinges provide snug fitting.

For both prescription glass wearers and no glass wearer.  (It may not be available to use this type for some large size prescription glasses.)

  5. Get the item number from the frame Model Number, then the Filter Type letter, then the Filter Code.  See the examples below.
(Note:  The "D" filter type is sometimes let off..)
